A 17-year-old connected to Chelsea joins a Ligue 1 team

Pape Daouda Diong, the in-demand Senegalese wonderkid, has signed with Strasbourg, according to Nizaar Kinsella’s article in the Evening Standard.

The 17-year-old was spotted at Stamford Bridge last month to watch the Carabao Cup victory against Newcastle, sparking widespread speculation that he would sign for us, but this move to our affiliate makes far more sense.

He will be in a French-speaking country, at a youth-oriented club. If he impresses, he will always have the option of moving to Chelsea in the future. It also spares us one important foreign loan spot. This appears to be a nice example of the affiliate system working properly.

He joins Kendry Paez, Angelo Gabriel, and Dujuan Richards as part of the historic BlueCo youth revolution.

Strasburg is having a strong season under Patrick Vieira. They’re ninth in Ligue 1 and haven’t lost in seven weeks across all competitions.
