According to municipal property records, Maher, 40, who began working at NPR in January, closed on the property in October, one month after John Lansing, the organization’s former CEO, said he would be leaving the role in the coming year.

During his leadership from 2019 to 2023, Lansing is recognized for having drastically changed the station’s approach to political coverage.

But now that Uri Berliner, a seasoned editor and reporter, exposed political prejudice at the publicly financed group in a piece he wrote last week for Bari Weiss’s The Free Press, Maher finds himself at the heart of controversy.

In the article, Berliner mentioned that the registered Democratic to Republican ratio at the outlet’s headquarters was 87 to zero, and that this resulted in a leftist tilt in the publication’s internal culture and coverage.

when 25 years with the network, Berliner quit on Wednesday when Maher—who lacks experience in the news industry—suspended him without pay for publishing the article.

Berliner posted on his X account, “I am leaving NPR, a fantastic American organization where I have worked for 25 years.”

“I hope NPR continues to grow and produce meaningful journalism because I respect the integrity of my colleagues.”

All the information you require on the NPR political bias controversy
In a shocking commentary, seasoned NPR editor Uri Berliner said that the station let liberal bias influence its reporting. Additionally, the senior business editor claimed that race and identity had become “paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace” due to NPR’s corporate culture.

Berliner berated NPR for snubbing the Hunter Biden laptop controversy, claiming a colleague expressed relief that the network wasn’t looking into the matter because it may aid in Donald Trump’s reelection.
After writing the essay, Berliner was placed on unpaid leave and resigned on Wednesday.
Berliner attacked Katherine Maher, the controversial new CEO of NPR, claiming that she is the “opposite” of what the beleaguered radio station needs and that she has previously made hyperpartisan tweets.

Berliner claimed that he got “a lot of support from colleagues, and many of them unexpected, who say they agree with me” after the piece was published.
Republican lawmakers have renewed their calls to cut off government funding for NPR in response to Berliner’s column.

COLUMN: With a worldwide conflict looming, NPR and the New York Times are reporting from a tumultuous place.
In his column for the Free Press, Berliner said he “cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite.”

Although the government-funded nonprofit media company is headquartered in Washington, DC, Maher’s decision to live in New York City as she assumes leadership is still unknown. The Post reached out to Maher for comment, but he did not reply.

Maher married lawyer Ashutosh Upreti in August 2023, and the two of them bought the Park Slope home.

The property is characterized as a two-family home with about 2,000 square feet that can be divided into a single-family spread.

The duplex owned by the owner has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen, a dining area, and a living room. There is a washer/dryer unit inside as well.
